What are the ramifications of a criminal record?

A criminal record can have many consequences on your life. It can affect your employment, housing, reputation, insurance costs and even entering another country such as the United States. Fighting a criminal charge with the best defense possible is important. You should make every attempt to get the offense discharged or reduced if possible.

How do I get my license back once suspended?

The Administration License Suspension Program will automatically suspend your driver's license if you are criminally charged with impaired driving. The suspension begins immediately when you are charged. Qualifications for suspension include operating a vehicle while impaired, refusing to take a breathalyzer test, failing a breathalyzer test and/or causing bodily harm or death to someone while driving impaired.

Calgary's impaired driving enforcement appears to be working

In a follow-up to a December article where we described the Calgary crusade to decrease impaired driving, we now report that it appears the crusade is succeeding. Law enforcement is actually seeing a reduction in impaired driving charges. Numbers for those charged with drunk driving in Calgary were down in 2015.

Do you have to take a breathalyzer test?

If you are stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence, do you have to take a breathalyzer test if the officer tells you to? Unfortunately, you do unless you want to face charges of refusing to comply with a police officer. You also do not have a right to request a lawyer before being subjected to roadside testing.
