Grovedale pickup truck driver charged with DUI in fatal accident

Police say that one person died and another person was seriously injured in a crash caused by an allegedly drunk driver In the Grand Prairie, Alberta, area. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, an all-terrain vehicle and a pickup truck crashed into each other on a recent Friday night about 24 kilometres outside Grand Prairie.

By the time emergency responders arrived, a 21-year-old man was already dead at the crash site. The deceased man have been riding as a passenger on the all-terrain vehicle.

Another man, 22 years old and from Grovedale, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He was transferred to an Edmonton hospital from the scene and was reported to be in stable condition. Unfortunately, neither of the all-terrain vehicle riders were wearing helmets.

The pickup truck driver who hit the all-terrain vehicle was a 21-year-old man, also from Grovedale. After police arrived, they arrested the pickup truck driver and charged him with impaired driving causing bodily harm and impaired driving causing death. His first court appearance was scheduled to occur at a courthouse in Grand Prairie.

The charges brought against the pickup driver in this case are very serious because the accident involved a death and a serious injury. Indeed, if the driver is convicted of the impaired driving causing death charge alone, he could spend many years in jail for the crime.

Anyone facing drunk driving charges after a vehicle accident should take his or her criminal defence very seriously and work with experienced lawyers to formulate the best response possible to the charges.
