Boating with friends? Leave the alcohol behind

Summer is in full swing, making boating excursions popular weekend activities for many Calgary residents. Spending the afternoon out on the water can be fun and relaxing, but if alcohol is being consumed, you could rack up a drunk driving charge for boating while intoxicated.

What is the Alberta drivers' license suspension program?

The Alberta government has the right to issue an immediate Notice of Suspension/Disqualification to any driver who provides police with a blood or breath sample that shows an alcohol content of more than 80 milligrams percent. The government can also revoke driving privileges from individuals who refuse to submit to a toxicology or breath alcohol test. The government has the right to do this under the Traffic Safety Act.

Man cited with driving 210 km/h over the speed limit

An Alberta driver was cited on May 28 for allegedly driving at the speed of 210 km/h in Lake County. The man was spotted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at approximately 6:20 p.m., on Highway 97 not far from Pelmewash Parkway, when he was clocked at the phenomenal speed. He was driving a white 2010 Audi R8 at the time of his arrest.
