Criminal defense: Calgary man being sought by police

Police are seeking a man believed to be connected to a home invasion that occurred back in March. Calgary authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 22-year-old man who is believed to have broken into a home. When the man is apprehended, he will be charged in connection with this crime. At this time, he will either be provided criminal defense by the court, or will have the option to secure his own representation.

The report says that around 2 a.m. the morning of March 6, a home was illegally entered. The 22-year-old man who allegedly broke in apparently did not harm anyone or steal anything, despite the assertion by police that a shotgun was involved in the invasion. The individual reportedly fled before police could arrive to apprehend him, but subsequent investigation suggests that he may have known the people who lived in the house.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest, providing a detailed description and photo to news outlets in the hopes of tracking him down. As of this report, he has not been located. Police are asking for the support of the community in finding this individual to bring him in for questioning.

When Calgary police bring in a suspect, they must do so according to a strict regimen of rules and regulations in order to ensure that individual's rights are not infringed upon. Criminal defense lawyers will often review the specifics of the arrest to look for inconsistencies in police treatment of the suspect. In some cases, the mishandling of a warrant or arrest can lead to certain evidence being excluded from the court case. This in turn can lead to charges being reduced or even dropped.
